Rich History, Bright Future
The House on Taylor was originally constructed circa 1850 for Mary Demere. It’s had a rich history of Savannahians utilizing the residence as a private home and commercial offices. The home was previously restored in the 1980s by renowned antique dealer Francis “Skeeter” McNairy, who used the carriage house as his storefront. During Skeeter’s restoration, the home was featured in several books detailing Savannah architecture and interiors, including Classic Savannah: History, Homes, and Gardens (1988).
House on Taylor Square Today
Today’s owners spent nearly an entire year on restoring the heart pine wood floors, plaster walls, and faux-painted moldings and doors – fully compliant with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties. Additionally, the owners have updated all bathrooms, kitchens, and interiors with modern necessities and conveniences to create a truly unique unison of modern and historic touches.
